borough projects

For the last 8 years Eldred Borough has been working diligently to come into compliance with a corrective action plan that DEP (Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection) had requested and then approved.  This plan was requested to be developed as a result of hydraulic and overload violations sited upon inspections of our Sewer Plant and System reports at that time.

Thousands of feet of outdated and compromised clay sewer lines have been replaced throughout targeted areas within Eldred Borough.  Manholes, curbs, sidewalks and streets have also received updates along these project phase paths.

This has been time consuming and costly.  Funding has been made possible by a series of awarded CDBG (Community Development Block Grants) written by....

Improving our recreational areas has been an ongoing goal for Eldred Borough.  Donations, grants and borough funding have all been resources for upgrades and maintenance of our ball fields and parks.

Most recently....

There have been changes made to how a levee is proven to be sufficient to provide flood protection by FEMA over the last ten years.

Some levees no longer meet risk reduction standards- see FEMA's "Meeting the Criteria" list.

Areas of high, moderate and low flood risk are shown on flood  maps (also known as Flood Insurance Rate Maps) issued by FEMA.  If a levee can protect against a major flood – defined as a flood with a 1 percent chance of occurring in any given year – the maps show the areas near the levee as areas of moderate risk.

Currently the Borough Secretary/ Ordinance Enforcement Officer is holding a tool drive to establish an inventory for a Community Tool Library.

This resource will ...

Later this summer UGI will replace lines on a portion of Main Street between Chrisman Street and Central Street.  They will be working with the Borough to cover a large portion of the cost to replace the sidewalk in this section of town.

Currently Eldred Borough is seeking a partnership with PennDOT via PennDOT Connects. 

Secretary Leslie Richards on PennDOT Connects in an article she wrote April 24, 2017:

We want every project to be considered in a holistic way to look for opportunities to improve safety, mobility, access, and environmental outcomes for all modes of transportation, including bicycles, pedestrians, transit, utilities, and community health. Earlier collaboration will ensure that projects meet current and projected needs as much as possible, and can reduce costly changes further in the project development process.

PennDOT plans to resurface a large section of RTE 446 soon. Eldred has approached them to consider some inclusions such as sidewalks, cost effective LED street lighting and the use of their resources to allow the Borough to replace catch basins in conjunction with their project.
