With September’s beginning comes summer’s end. School is in full swing and so is road work. Edson and Elm Street have been repaved. Thank you for your patience and cooperation through those brief street closures. Expect sewer line work on Platt Street and King Street extending onto a bit of Main Street this fall. All of this betterment is due in thanks to a Community Block Development Grant from McKean County Redevelopment and Housing awarded to Eldred Borough as a result of Vice President Kimberly Weikert’s grant writing efforts.
This month brings wonderful news for the Borough of Eldred. Revitalize Eldred’s campaign for funding a mural on the library and historical society building was successful. A wind storm threatened to slow and even halt this project, but community support was strong and the momentum for this project only picked up. The repairs, prep and painting are scheduled for mid-to late September. Volunteer opportunities may be available throughout this process; an industrial paint sprayer, pressure washer and operator, for example. Thanks to our wonderfully supportive community, Eldred will be that much more beautiful.
Volunteers are always needed and greatly appreciated at our local fire department. As often is the case, in the recent weeks there have been several occasions in which our volunteer fire hall has played a very big role in supporting the community during loss and need. The Borough and Council is thankful and hopes strong support for that department will be their reward for such dedication.
Eldred Borough Fire Hall will hold Bingo on September 2nd; doors open at 4:30 and a food auction September 9, 2017 1 pm..
